On The Edge Of……

The coastline position of the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum in Birkenhead suggested a broad theme of the sea and the implications of living on an island. Against this background and through a collaborative installation featuring large scale works, the title invited each artist to respond to the world in which we live.
This exhibition brings together 8 textile artists who have explored both the positive and negative interpretation of the title as they each consider precisely what we are on the edge of. The edge of the land becomes a metaphor for possible disaster or the triumph of humanity, and outer space becomes the new frontier.
