Whether in art or on a greeting card, the heart symbol is synonymous with the concept of love. This exhibition showcases the interpretation of artists who have looked beyond the obvious to create a unique piece of work.

One of our MEG members, Karen Scott, has a canvas work embroidery in this exhibition titled IN A HEARTBEAT. Florentine stitch style canvas work embroidery in cotton thread.

Karen says –  Mum (Shelagh) got very sick in 2015 and was diagnosed as needing a double heart by-pass and valve replacement. Unfortuneately early in 2016 the heart surgeon felt that she would not recover from surgery due to her dementia and co-morbidities. I accompanied Mum to many A.E.D attendances, Outpatient and Inpatient episodes. The embroidery is a piece I have created as a represent ation of one of my Mum’s ECG traces from this time.

IN A HEARTBEAT was worked in traditional Florentine style canvas work with approximately 6,500 stitches, at her bedside throughout those hospital visits until Mum passed away in 2017. There are many laughs, tears, and memories threaded into this work from the conversations we had. Amazing support from NHS staff, Merseyside Embroiderers’ Guild and the fellow stitchers from the Art Studio at Metropolitan Cathedral.
